The Word Is Out!

January 28, 2008 - There was at work on a wonderful Monday morning when my friend Jason asks me if I heard the announcement on the radio.  I said, no, what announcement?  He said your boys are coming back.  My boys?  Huh?  Then he said New Kids on The Block.  I was in shock.  I had to turn the radio on right away.  Of course, I missed it and the radio personality didn't talk about it again but I heard that the stagnant website had now suddenly been "turned back on".  So you know the first thing I did, right?  I typed in www.nkotb.com on my iPhone.  Although I accessed the page, it wouldn't load properly because I needed flash player which the iPhone does not currently support.  Come on Apple and Adobe work together!  My favorite group in the whole world is reuniting and I can't get to their website from my iPhone. Ugh!

Joe -  you feel me?  I know you have an iPhone too.

So, I go home and use my home computer to go to the website.  This is what I saw:

I almost had a heart attack.  My heart was racing, I felt weak, I couldn't believe it.  I wanted to know more.

Within the next few weeks, they had put a few more things on the website but it still wasn't giving a whole lot of information.  I signed up for the newsletter to be sure I found out the minute any news came out about where and when.  I got out my CD's (mostly cassette tapes) I had and started listening to them non-stop.  I was so excited.  This is the best thing ever!  I kept checking the website daily to see if anything changed.  It was always the same information.  The hype was fading.  I started to think that maybe it was all a hoax.  Who would do such a thing?  Get these girls (who are grown ladies now) all emotional over a big comeback and then just stop all the hoopla.  Madness!

All but the last day of the month of March there was not a peep from them.  Then on March 31st I get an email announcing that they are making an appearance on the Today show on Friday, April 4th.  My first though was, "I am so there!" but I didn't get enough notice to schedule a day off from work and prepare for the 2 1/2 hour drive to NYC.  So I DVR'd it instead.  I could not wait to come home from work that day and see what they had to say.  I will tell you one thing, Donnie really knows the fans well.  He knew exactly how I was feeling about the rumor possibly not being true.  Take a look for yourself on the You Tube clip.  May 16th could not get here fast enough.  I had plenty of time now to take a day off from work, make hotel reservations, and everything else that comes with being a dedicated fan.  I am back on the block for sure!
